Legislative Activity
The Rutland Region Chamber of Commerce has been very active again this legislative session in an effort to keep the Rutland region business community in the forefront.
The Chamber has a Public Policy Committee that has been meeting bi-weekly since September. The committee revised the Chamber's Legislative Policy Statement for 2003 and made recommendations to the RRCC Board of Directors.
In addition the Chamber held a Legislative Mixer, five Legislative Breakfasts (sponsored thanks to Bank North Vermont) and included a Legislative Bus Trip to the State House (sponsored thanks to OMYA, Inc).
The Chamber has a contract with Primmer & Piper for full time legislative monitoring in the State House. In addition, the Chamber's CEO (Tom Donahue) is a regular in Montpelier and testified several times this session on issues important to Rutland and Vermont. RRCC took several positions on issues i.e. Act 250, Paid Family Leave, Community Rating / Insurance, and has advocated for numerous capital projects for the area including the Rutland Rail Yard Relocation, District / Family Court, and the Vermont State Fair to name a few.
Our delegation from Rutland County works well together and usually enjoys the full support of the Chamber.
While the Legislature continues to complete it's work the Chamber will stay active until the session formally adjourns.
